Skype debuts on the web

Microsoft has just announced its next major release: A web version of its popular instant messaging and Skype video call. The Beta version will launch the application that can run in browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari) without installing additional plugins . Great news for the service users as from now they do not need to download the application.

Skype web will operate directly from Skype.com, managing to provide the service without additional plugins via WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication), APIs developed to enable transmission between web clients audio and video in the fastest way possible. A web standard already implemented in various services such as Google and Mozilla.

Microsoft will begin testing the service with a small group of beta testers . From time to install a plugin is required before full release of version with WebRTC protocol.
