The Super Battery: charge the phone battery in 2 minutes
Charging the phone battery can be inconvenient and take time, but what if you could get a proper battery recharge in minutes?
Scientists at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore say they have developed a lithium-ion battery that can go from zero to 70% of the power capacity in two minutes.Lithium batteries are commonly used on phones and tablets.
Perhaps even more important, the battery lasts much longer than we have now , an attribute that could boost electric car industry, according to the developers said.
The new battery is supposed to last 10,000 cycles, two decades an estimated useful life and 10 times more than what we are used to.
In contrast, Apple says its phone batteries are designed to “withstand up to 80% of its original capacity after 500 full charge cycles” . In general, the recharge a battery, its functioning is lost with time.
The breakthrough here is in the anode or negative pole of the battery, which traditionally works with graphite. Graphite is replaced with a newly developed from a “abundant, inexpensive and safe” material called titanium dioxide, which is in the ground gel. He is also an active ingredient in sunscreen.
The researchers were able to transform the titanium dioxide spherical shaped tubular shaped beads that are 1,000 times thinner than a human hair. The gel accelerates the reactions taking place in the new battery, helping to charge the phone battery much faster. Has been called the “super battery” .
