ZANO: A mini-drone autonomous to the best selfies
The market for drones is becoming bigger like its list of applications. While most tempting options users and government organizations struggle at every step by the use and regulation appear. One is ZANO , a mini-drone compact, autonomous functions, easy to control and equipped with a five megapixel camera to capture the best angles .
In 2011, the Federal Aviation Administration punished Raphael Pirker by a fine of ten thousand dollars for using a drone on the campus of the University of Virginia. Is the same Raphael Pirker who managed flying over the Statue of Liberty. Apparently he had the support of local authorities but the FAA has adopted a fairly tough stance (a judge annulled the fine and appealed FAA) , especially if the flights and the captured videos have commercial purposes. Of course, that has not stopped the enthusiast community and probably will not. We must also add the pressure of some companies ( like Amazon ) for approval for the commercial use of drones. Until then, I think it’s relatively safe to use drones as leisure and personal entertainment. The initial investment is lower and the industry is responding with all kinds of alternatives. One of the most recent is ZANO .
ZANO is as big as a smartphone and its main function is to place a lens in air to produce images and video from anywhere you can think of. No matter if you are sitting with friends, riding a motorcycle, skiing, climbing or running, the idea is that ZANO float around and not miss anything with your camera. The native resolution of the sensor is five megapixels and bandwidth issues, your video is limited to 720p but this may change in the future. The battery (replaceable) allows the ZANO remain in the air for ten or fifteen minutes depending on climate and its range is between fifteen and thirty meters. The main user communication is via WiFi but its creators hope to incorporate RF and infrared support for functions of swarm and that multiple the communication with each other.
ZANO has already obtained 125,000 pounds searching on Kickstarter and 41 days ahead, the sky is the limit. At this moment, the price per unit is 139 pounds (175 euros) and includes a cable charger but less than twenty euros extra supply becomes much more interesting, since it incorporates a spare battery and a housing for drone storage. The company ships to everyone and first deliveries are scheduled for June 2015.
